Vietnam is a truly stunning country of Southeast Asia, whose name often conjures instant images and thoughts of the Vietnam war. The sad truth is that many westerner’s knowledge of the country, it’s people and culture are taken from fictional war movies which have caused almost absurd stereotypes about this fascinating and friendly land.
The country has a long history and is filled with ancient traditions. With a population over 83 million, Vietnam can best be pictured by its bustling cities, long stretches of idyllic beaches (with some amazing surfing spots), and striking monoliths. The north of the country is characterized by mountains and villages, where ancient traditions and customs still play a key role in daily life. To the south rivers and canals run through thick rainforest, and the vibrant Ho Chi Minh city buzzes with activity day and night.
